Prius Project, Day Five: Studio Intensive
Prius Project, Day Five: Studio Intensive
From our guest blogger and fellow Prius-Project-atron, Lindsey Bailey. Over at CakeCrush, Lindsey engages youth through community arts, but hopped onto this by way of the sculptural and installation experience that drives the foundation of her youth work. She’ll give a glance into our in-studio intensive work today as well as talk a little bit about the sculpture.

What an exciting day at the studio! Lot’s of work done in a 10 hour time slot!
After battling a few clogging spray paint cans, running back and forth to both Jerry’s Artarama and Plaza, Corey and Megan beat the heat and made big headway on the recycle bins. Tape, spray, stencil, spray, repeat!
Stephen, Mynoc, and I had the luxury of staying indoors to work on the recycled chandelier. I concentrated on bending hangers and attaching fabric to create teardrop elements for the large lower rings of the main chandelier form. Stephen concentrated on completing the main frame or structure of the chandelier. He created the armature out of egg crates, hanger wire, and cardboard. Fetching, don’t you think?
Mynoc’s focus was on food. But, he also entertained everyone by repeatedly watching episodes of Bill Cosby’s Picture Pages on the interwebs at high volume. He was laughing hysterically–it was a real treat . . .
Next up? Completion of the chandelier and bins. We will be adding fingerweaving elements and apple carton pieces to the chandelier, as well as painting cardboard pennants to attach to both the chandelier and the tent where it will reside. A large chain and some metallic pieces will be added for light reflection.
Stay tuned, more soon!
